8 Things You Need to Do on a Romantic Getaway to Victoria

I can count on one hand, how many times the hubby and I have been on a romantic getaway since the kids were born…half. I say half  because a couple of years ago we went away to Seattle for an overnight trip, but it was with siblings and cousins so it doesn’t really count as romantic, even though it was fun.

The hubby and I finally remedied that earlier this month when we decided to take a whole weekend just for ourselves and visit beautiful Victoria, the most romantic city in Canada! If you’re going to finally go on a romantic getaway, it should definitely be to a city that’s been voted most romantic for five years in a row, don’t you agree?

8 things to do on a Romantic Getaway to Victoria, BC (2)

We arrived in Victoria on Friday and left on Sunday. Over the weekend, we ate delicious food, had amazing adventures, cuddled, walked, spa’d (that’s a word right?) and even worked out together. We left Victoria feeling happy, refreshed, closer and we can’t wait to go back again!

Until then I’m reliving the experience by sharing 8 Things You NEED to do on a Romantic Getaway to Victoria, BC.

1. Take a Harbour Air Seaplane
If you want to start your romantic getaway on the right foot, fly  to Victoria in a Harbour Air Seaplane. The view that you get on the ride over is seriously amazing and to experience it together was perfect. Not only that, it takes a fraction of the time in comparison to the ferry and you can get your romantic weekend started a whole lot faster (wink, wink)

2. Stay at The Delta Hotels Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort

We stayed at Delta Hotel by Marriott on our getaway. It was close to the dock and right on the water. The room was perfect with a super comfortable bed, an amazing view and of course robes and slippers (my favourite.)

We were welcomed with a tray of delicious goodies that we didn’t resist and had great service the whole time. We even took advantage of the awesome fitness facilities they had as well as the hot tub.

Best of all, the Delta was so centrally located, that we were able to walk everywhere, even though they did provide a complementary shuttle if you needed it.

3. Go on a Zipline Adventure
If you’ve never been ziplining, which neither me nor the hubby had, than you have to go to AdrenaLINE Adventure Zipline Tour in Sooke, a short car ride from Victoria. The season was opening the weekend that we went and we did a private zipline tour through the rain forest.  I admit I was nervous, but our two guides were so great and they put as at ease right way and safely took us through our adventure.

After our first  easy zipline ride to try it out, we were set. Our tour included, eight ziplines, two suspension bridges and a 10-minute ATV ride. The feeling of riding across the ziplines and the views from the treetops were amazing. We left the adventure feeling excited and exuberant. We definitely want to come back one day, hopefully with the kids.

P.S. Once you’re done, if you walk over to the 17-Mile House Pub, you should definitely try their authentic Irish coffee!

4. Get Pampered at The Spa
Of course you need to get a little pampering when you’re on a romantic getaway right? Lucky for us, our hotel had a really great spa with lots of services including massages, the perfect way to relax.

5. Eat Amazing Food
It goes without saying that a weekend away needs amazing food and I promise, you won’t be disappointed when you eat in Victoria. There are sooo many amazing restaurants with delicious food. To name just a few of our favourites on this trip; 10 Acres Kitchen, The Steamship Grill and Willie’s Cafe and Bakery.

There was so much good food, I actually had to write a whole blog post about it where you can see all the pictures and find out more details. My friend Jamie from Styling the Inside went on her own romantic getaway and experienced even more yummy food as she took a food tour with her hubby.

6. Be a Tourist
When you’re in Victoria, it’s a great opportunity to play tourist. There are attractions that everyone can enjoy. And it’s a good excuse to hold hands and walk around to enjoy what this romantic city had to offer. Some of my favourite things included the Royal BC Museum, Miniature World and the Parliament Building. Next time I definitely want to ride the double decker bus, check out Robert Bateman Centre and the beautiful Buchart and Butterfly Gardens.

7. Go Shopping
In downtown Victoria there are lots of shops and boutiques to browse through whether you’re looking for something unique to add to your wardrobe, some souvenirs or even to window shop.

8. Get in some Snuggling Time
And last but not least, when you’re on a romantic getaway, make sure to get in some extra snuggles before heading back to your busy life, family and kids.

If you’re looking at taking a little trip and spending some quality time with your significant other, then I would recommend taking a trip to Victoria, BC, Canada’s most romantic city.

  1. Love Victoria! During the summer months, there’s all the fish n chip shops at Fisherman’s Wharf, and renting scooters to drive along Dallas Road.
Lots of microbreweries, and nice wineries if you don’t mind driving up to Cowichan Valley.
We usually walk the seawall on summer nights, and there’s always buskers to keep things lively 🙂
