My Favourite Shows – New and Old

One of my favourite ways to relax is to make a bowl of stovetop popcorn and then catch-up on my favourite shows. I love getting lost in the lives of some of my favourite TV characters.

Nowadays, that is usually on Netflix. We do still have cable but the only reason we are hanging on is for the live hockey games and the occasional drop in to check on the lives of everyone at General Hospital. Yes, I am a fan!

I thought it might be fun to write a post about my favorite shows from 2014 and make a list of the show that I want to watch or catch up on in 2015.

There were some great series’ that we watched last year when we first got Netflix.

The first one we got hooked on was a Netflix original series Orange is the New Black. I wasn’t sure what to expect from this show that was based on the life of Piper who is thrown from a pretty cushy life in New York to a life in a women’s prison when she has to pay for a crime she committed in her youth. Once we started watching, there was no stopping until we got through both seasons!

We also really enjoyed The Good Wife and Suits. Both are shows based on lawyers but with very different storylines. One is about a wife who stands by her cheating husband…for a while. The other is about a hotshot lawyer to takes a super smart con artist under his wing. If you haven’t see these, I definitely recommend them.

When Nashville first premiered, I wanted to watch it, but somehow it didn’t happen. So when I saw that it was on Netflix I decided to start and I was not disappointed. Even though I don’t listen to country music, it doesn’t matter. This show has everything; drama, romance, intrigue, suspense and even some laughs. I can’t wait for the next season!

Back in 2006, the hubby and I started a captivating new series Heroes, but for some reason we only got through one and a half seasons. So I was pretty excited to see that it was on Netflix and I finally got to finish it in December. And just in time, because apparently in 2015, there is going to be a reboot of the series for 13 episodes!

Heroes
The hubby and I also watched
White Collar, a series we discovered later in the year but it was a good one too!

Those were some of our favorite TV shows in 2014. Now to figure out which ones we want to start this year.

I’ve actually already started watching Gossip Girl, a series that I watched for two and a half seasons and then I got a bit tired of it. But now, a few years later, I want to know what happened to everyone so I am catching up. Sometimes you just need a little closure.

Here is a list, of shows on Netflix that people have recommended and that sound really interesting. But I don’t know where to start.

1. Downtown Abbey
2. Prison Break (another one that I started but didn’t finish.)
3. Glee
4. The Mindy Project
5. House of Cards
6. Lost
7. The Republic of Doyle
8. Shield
9. Pretty Little Liars
10. About a Boy (I loved the movie.)

Which series would you recommend? And which ones will you be watching this year?

  1. LOL! Well, I just realized that I’m not watching any of the popular shows! Your synopsis was good, because I’ve never watched a single one of those! Outside of sports, news and some Hallmark movies with my wife, I guess I’m not watching a lot of TV!

  2. I love this post, and the format of your blog is so clean and lovely! I am an avid watcher of Downtown Abbey. Be careful, though, because once you start watching it you won’t be able to stop! Stopping by from Ultimate Blog Challenge.

  3. First of all, I loved, loved, loved this article! it’s right up my alley and I, too, love Orange ITNB. Can’t wait for the season premiere in February. I have been looking for a new show to start with and I think I will try Suits, sounds interesting. I think I speak for everyone in the United States saying that House of Cards is the best show around EVER!!! You will love it! And its a show that we in the states just cram in a whole weekend, nothing else but watch the entire season. Glee was good for the first few seasons but it has gotten LAME. Downton Abbey is great and I recommend, as is Pretty Little Liars. Its so unbelievable, and how they base season upon season over one little thing, but they do and people love it. My daughters are teenagers and if they played a drinking game every time one of the PLL girls took a drink of coffee, they wouldn’t get past the first ten minutes of the show before they fell flat on their faces! Good luck deciding, I hope I’ve been some help. Again, LOVED IT!

  4. I love, Love, LOVE, The Good Wife! I’ve been a fan from the beginning and it just keeps getting better! I’m a fan of The Shield but it’s pretty violent in a way that the other shows you listed (at least the ones I’ve seen) aren’t. Downton is great in the beginning but I think it’s fallen off in the last two seasons.
It seems like you’ve got great taste in TV shows, and all the ones on your to watch list are good (at least in my opinion).

  5. Great list! I love watching most of the same shows. Looking forward to season three of House of Cards to start soon. I wish Netflix would update the seasons a bit faster than they do. That drives me CRAZY!

  6. I don’t have Neflix, unfortunately. Couldn’t afford extra for the tv on a pension. I’ve heard of some of these shows and they sound good. Maybe they will be repeated on Freeview in years to come. At the moment, I’m watching a rerun of Andromeda and still loving it the second time around.

  7. I’m like Ken – haven’t seen ANY of the shows you mentioned! I just don’t watch much TV – about the only times I pay attention are hubby’s and my favorite sitcoms, various sports, and occasional specials on the History or Discovery channels.

  8. So, for the reader who doesn’t want to pay for Netflix I’d recommend checking out Hulu. Lots of first run TV shows are there. You can’t binge watch an entire season (for the most part), but you can catch up if you miss an episode or two of your favorite show.

For Netflix, I found myself recently rewatching Chuck. Maybe its the nerd in me, but I enjoyed that show quite a bit when it first came out. I also enjoy Downton Abbey, but it is hard to keep up with all of the plot twists!

  9. I just signed up and I’m loving Sherlock. My next one is going to be Call the Midwife. Also I hear Friday Night Lights is amazing.

We are all addicted to Netflix.

    Agi:)
