Sometimes We Need A Little Inspiration

Sometimes we need a little inspiration.

It’s not because we’re unhappy or upset or lost but without realizing into, we often get caught up in our lives with our families and our jobs and our friends. Sometimes we get lost in the little things.

I am totally guilty of this. I’ve caught myself getting upset about something I wasn’t invited to, questioning it, wondering about it and making it into a big thing. Or I agonize over the last ten pounds of baby weight I can’t lose and how I can’t fit into my pants. I’ve let myself get caught up in internal drama that really wasn’t necessary. It happens to all of us and a lot of the time we don’t even realize it.

Then I attended my first Leading Moms. All of sudden I felt like I woke up. It was a morning of seriously inspiring talks from amazing mothers. It made me come out of this little box I put myself in and look at the bigger world around me. There were so many extraordinary things happening around me that I was missing and I needed to open my eyes again.

First we heard from Andrea Thomas Hill, a mother of two and philanthropist who has dedicated her life to helping others. We also listened to Taryn Brumfitt, a global body image activist who is inspiring women to change how they think about themselves and love their bodies.  It was a panel of  many mothers who shared their stories, their struggles, their successes and most importantly, they inspired.

I heard so many words, that I never want to forget and I want to share some of them to hopefully inspire you as well.

“There is always time to help others.” – Andrea Thomas Hill, Cause We Care

“Never back away from who you are.” – Louise Green, Body Exchange

“How can I teach my daughter to love her body when her mum doesn’t?” – Taryn Brumfitt, Body Image Movement

“What are small things you can do to lay the foundation for bigger change?” – Jen Schaeffers Networking in Vancouver

“Get some perspective and have some gratitude!”-  Taryn Brumfitt, Body Image Movement

Since hearing and talking to these and many other inspiring women, I’m making a change, from the inside on how I feel and how I react. It’s a work in progress but I want to do it. I want my life and my family’s life to be more than the box we’ve put ourselves in.

Is there a person or an action or a quote that inspires you?

  1. Very good article, and it is true some of the things you have written women go through it. Keep up the good work.

  2. Funny how inspiration struck us both tonight. I find inspiration in so many places nowadays. There was a time I didn’t. Expanding our awareness to the people and things around us not only lets us see just how beautiful the world and we, ourselves are, it allows us to have unlimited “aha moments”. And such is the way to live a life of joy.

Keep following those inspirations. It sounds like you’ve already found a few game changers.

  3. Great article. I am also guilty of getting caught up with work, kids, and life in general. I have to remind myself to take a step back and enjoy life and find that inspiration that will get me out of the ho hum doldrums… I can also see that the quotes in this post are inspiring and will remember a few when I need to be inspired..

  4. SALMA, your inspirations, kindles my spirit to change my green eating habits. Three years ago, I picked up eating healthy, while spending time with you in Winnipeg. Returning to BC, I strayed. Now it seems to be the good time to get back on the tracks. Thank you.

Please keep on Inspiring & your quest for a healthy life style.
