6 Spring Break Staycation Ideas

Spring Break is almost here. If you are one of the lucky ones that is heading to sunnier destinations to to enjoy the beaches, have an amazing time (and use some of these tips.) If you’re like us and staying at home, you can still make the most of these two weeks off and have some fun. Here are 6 Spring Break Staycation Ideas for the whole family.

Spring Break Staycation Ideas

Spring Break Staycation Ideas

1. Camping in your living room
If you are staying close to home, then why not do some indoor camping? Set up your tent, sleeping bags, flashlights and camping food in your living room for the night. Your kids will think you are the best parents and it’ll be an adventurous, inexpensive vacation. Schedule in a local hike, an indoor scavenger hunt and some board games and you could probably stretch it into a whole weekend staycation.

2. Be a tourist in your own city
Often when you live in a city, you don’t ever visit all the great tourist attractions that people come from miles around to see. Spring Break is a great time to do just that. Here in Vancouver, there are lots of things to do, like bicycling around Stanley Park, a ride up to Grouse Mountain, a day at Capilano Suspension Bridge and so much more!

3. Movie Marathon
Another one of my favourite staycation ideas is to invite some friends over and have a family movie marathon. Netflix is great for this. You can pick all the movies you want to see ahead of time, then get your snacks, get comfy and start watching. Some of our favourites are How to Train Your Dragon, Turbo and Cloudy with a Chance of MeatballsSince it’s Spring Break, add in a few science-inspired movies like Deadliest Volcanos and you’ll all get educated while you’re having fun!

4. Stay at a hotel
You don’t have to travel out of down to stay at a hotel. Find a hotel close to you, preferably with a pool and enjoy a couple of days of lounging, swimming and not having to cook or clean. Sounds like a great vacation to me.

5. Day Trips
A road trip can be a fun staycation. Take a car, ferry or helicopter ride with the family. With great destinations like Bowen Island, Victoria and Harrison Hot Springs, you can have a great Spring Break right here in BC.

6. Become a book worm
Let everyone in the family grab their favourite books, curl up together in the living room with some snacks and read books. Normally life is too busy for that so a staycation is the perfect chance to catch up on your reading. Combine it one of the ideas above and it’ll make the perfect relaxing staycation.

Those are some of my favourite staycation ideas! Have you ever taken a staycation before? What did you do?

  1. We will be traveling, but not quite yet. You are fortunate, in Vancouver, to have lots to do (I visited Vancouver once, and loved it.). Here in upstate New York, travel is still dicey due to colder than normal weather. In fact, we broke a record low temperature this morning.

  2. Those are all very nice ideas, Salma. I remember making tents out of sheets and couch cushions when I was a kid. It was so much fun! I’ll be home during spring vacation this year, but I will be just coming back after from Montreal for a couple of weeks to visit with my family.

  3. I don’t think I will head to sunny beaches but I definitely need to become a tourist in my own city. It’s been awhile since I did something out of the ordinary and time has been passing a bit faster than I want it to. These are good ideas and I’ll definitely try to follow up on a couple of them.

  4. Staycations at a hotel are big in our family. We have some waterpark-hotels near us, and the kids love going there! We don’t say for more than a night or two, because they can get expensive, but even that short a time can create a lot of fun family memories!
