5 Wedding Anniversary Date Ideas

On August 5, 2007Β my husband and I got married. Β It was a beautiful summer day togther with our friends and family. It’s a day I will never forget, the ceremony, the laughter, the dancing and the memories.

Every year on our wedding anniversary, we do something special to celebrate. Our first tradition is to always watch some parts of our wedding video to re-live part of that day. It’s so much fun, especially now that we get to share it with the kids.

Then we will go out on a date, just the two of us. No gifts for each other, just something we can do together. We take pictures and keep souvenirs of the day and then put it in our Anniversary Scrapbook. This way, 10 years down the road, when we look at it, we will remember what we did on each and every anniversary!

Each year we try and do something different, exciting and fun so I thought a perfect post would be a list of 5 Wedding Anniversary Date Ideas.

Wedding Anniversary Date Ideas

1. Couples Massage
We did this for one of our anniversaries and we both loved it. We got to get away, just the two of us and it was something different from the usual dinner and a movie. It’s perfect for an anniversary because it lets you relax, reconnect and bond.

2. River Rafting Trip
Go on an adventure for your wedding anniversary. Something like river rafting is out of the ordinary. It gets the adrenaline going, gets you to work together and can even be romantic, especially if you make it into an overnight trip. It’ll be an anniversary you won’t forget.
We actually did a river rafting trip with REO Rafting this year as well as one night of glamping for our anniversary and we had an amazing time! Such a memorable 9th anniversary.

3. Weekend Getaway

Make the most of your anniversary (especially if you have family around to help with the kids) and go away for a whole weekend together to have some fun and relaxation! First place that comes to mind is Las Vegas πŸ™‚ Of course you could keep it local and go to a nice Bed & Breakfast or find a getaway that’s a couple hours driving distance where you could spend your anniversary together.

4. Casino Date
A couple years ago, we went to the casino for a date on our anniversary and it was a lot of fun. If it’s not something you usually do, it can be a fun evening. Get dressed up, play, take a chance and have some kid-free fun!

5. Make a Bucket List
Spend a few hours alone together and talk about your goals and dreams for the future together. Then make a bucket list of things you would like to do together whether it’s traveling, embarking on an adventure, taking up a new hobby or sport. It’ll be a great way to spend time together, bond and cement your future plans together.

In the end, a Wedding Anniversary is a time to spend together and celebrate your special day as a couple. So whether it’s at an out-of-town getaway or it’s your favourite movie and popcorn on your couch, as long as it’s spent together, that’s what matters.

  1. Salma,

I love these ideas. What I truly love about them is that each and every one of these ideas gives you and your husband the ability to truly connect with each other. What happens so many times in marriages is the connection is lost. You guys have some truly fun ideas here that allows you to stay connected and have fun doing it. This is a great article!

    1. Thanks so much Nathaniel, that connection is really important, because you’re right, sometimes it does get lost in the hubbub of the rest of life.

  2. I love the idea of trying something adventurous – and of course, going away for a weekend sounds heavenly! (We have NEVER done that in our 11 years of marriage! We were supposed to last year, but then my husband went and broke his foot! Boo.) We usually spend some part of our anniversary making some short term plans. Your post makes me want to date my husband again πŸ˜‰ Thanks for sharing!

    1. Thanks Taslim. You’re going to have to re-plan that getaway now that his foot is healed πŸ™‚ The list definitely makes dating again sound fun!

  3. Love these ideas Salma. Before my son we would celebrate bigger like going to Whistler for our first anniversary. Next year is our 10 year. I was hoping for New York or Paris but I don’t think financially we can afford it. We said that for our 15 year that’s our goal. This year we are going to Hawsworths for dinner.

Thanks for the idea of rewatching the video. We’ve wanted to do it but never have. My son would love it!!!!

  4. I love the idea of watching your wedding video together! God knows where ours is! I’ll dig it up this weekend! We also generally just go out for lunch or dinner. Now that the kids are older, they just stay at home while we can even catch a movie together!

  5. Oh my gosh, you have an anniversary scrapbook! What a great idea! Love the casino night idea – that would be fun! And there are so many great local casinos to try out. Thanks for the ideas.
