Easy Avocado Smoothie

Smoothies are very popular in our house. Whether it’s for breakfast or just a snack, anytime I ask, “Who wants a smoothie?” I get a chorus of “me, me, me!” Those would be the voices of my five and three-year old children.

I love making smoothies because they are full of all the good stuff like fruit, yogurt, milk, greens and more. When I’m in a hurry, a smoothie is often my grab and go breakfast. Some of our favourites are the Banana Date Smoothie and a simple, delicious Watermelon Smoothie

Then, when I was contacted by Williams-Sonoma to be a part of their Smoothie Week, I thought it would be a perfect time to share one of the most popular smoothies in our house, the Avocado Smoothie. It also works well with their Not Your Typical Smoothie theme. I mean lets face it, when we think avocados, it’s usually for guacamole, or to add to a salads and sandwiches and even as the perfect baby food, not a smoothie.

But avocados actually taste great in a smoothie! They give it a creamy texture and they are really good for you to boot! Avocados are full of good fat, fibre, anti-oxidants and are said to help lower cholesteral.

So here is the very simple and very delicious Avocado Smoothie.

  1. I tried this, and the boys drank the first few sips with a lot of enthusiasm, but the enthusiasm fizzled out very quickly after that. Mommy thought it was good to the last drop, though!

  2. Sounds like it would be good! I always see avocados in the store and think about purchasing one, but never know what I’d do with it. This is an idea!

  3. I absolutely love this. I put avacado in my smoothies. I hardly taste them at all..not that I mind the taste, but once mixed with bananas it just takes on a creamy texture and banana taste. Love it!

  4. Interesting! I never would have thought to use avocado in a smoothie either. I can imagine it would be a smooth drink. I’d have to leave out the banana though. I don’t know why, I just can’t stand the taste of mushed banana. Thanks for the recipe! Fun stuff.

  5. The pictures look really nice BUUUUUT I’ve not found a smoothie recipe that I really like. I tried green smoothies with spinach and banana — have to admit it did not work for me. What kinds of smoothies do your kids like?

  6. I need to lower my cholesterol, but I’ll admit that I’m not too fond of avocado. 🙂

I tried guacamole and didn’t care for it. Ever since then, I don’t want to try the smoothie with one in it, but everybody, including you, tells me they taste great.

    Maybe one day. 🙂

  7. Hi Salma,

This one is one of my all time favourite recipe. Here is additional tips might help your readers.

Avocados have the lowest risk of pesticide residue (1 out of 100) according to the Environmental Working Group, so it is not necessary to purchase organic avocados if you are trying to save money on your grocery bill.

Thanks and have a great week ahead
