Gilmore Girls – A Mother’s Perspective

I loved watching Gilmore Girls growing up! I made a weekly date with the TV to get my fill of Rory, Lorelei and the rest of the gang in Stars Hollow.

You can imagine just how excited I was when I found out that Netflix was launching Gilmore Girls, A Year in the Life, almost a decade after the season finale.

With the premier only four days away, I’ve been binge watching old episodes in preparation. A friend of mine is having a viewing party on Friday November 25, complete with with pie and maybe even some pop tarts.

It’s funny though, when I used to watch the show, it was from a daughter’s perspective. I thought wow, what a cool mom Lorelei was and I loved that they got to eat so much junk food! Most of all, I loved the bond they shared as best friends.

As a mom, I totally think differently when I’m re-watching the show. Now I’m aghast at the amounts of junk food they eat and the copious amounts of coffee a sixteen-year old could drink! It’s funny how perspectives change. But I am still in awe of the great mother-daughter relationship and I hope my daughter and I are half as close.

Regardless of all that, I can’t wait to watch the four-part mini-series of Gilmore Girls, A Year in the Life.

Did you watch the show growing up? And are you going to be watching A Year in the Life?
