Infuse your water

In our house, we don’t have juice on a regular basis , it’s mostly water and milk. Well, for the kids and I it is because I haven’t been able to crack the hubby’s pop habit yet. We have juice on special occasions and sometimes we freshly squeeze orange juice for breakfast and the kids love squeezing out the juice!

At times I do crave something with a little more flavour than plain water. Then the other day I saw a post on Facebook of this beautiful glass of water with pieces of fruit and herbs. It looked so delicious and refreshing! When I went to make it, of course I could no longer find the post so here is my version of the drink that I saw.

Let’s call it the “Minty Citrus Cuc” drink.

Ingredients:
Half a cucumber, sliced
1 lime, sliced
1/2 a large lemon, sliced
1/2 a bunch of fresh mint

Directions:
In a jug, put in all the ingredients.
Add in a couple cups of ice cubes (I didn’t do this step because I didn’t have any at the time.)
Then fill the jug with water
Put the jug in the refrigerator for a couple of hours for all the flavours to infuse
Then pour and drink! So yummy and refreshing!

As the jug empties you can keep refilling it for up to three days. You can even put some in your water bottle and take it to go.

After tasting this, I started looking for more ideas and I found out that this is called infusing your water. What simple, tasty and healthy way to not only drink more water but also naturally bring flavour to your water. I found some more great ideas at The Yummy Life like Raspberry Lime Water and Pineapple Mint. I’m excited to try them out.

It could even be a fun thing to do with the kids by putting out a few bowls of different fruits and then letting them pick what they want to put in their glasses of water. We will be trying it out very soon. Hopefully it will be their new favorite.

Have you tried infusing or flavouring your water? If so, what combination do you love?

  1. This looks delicious! What a great idea! We too only drink juice for real treats around here and this is a great way to make the same old a little more special! Plus I can have it too – very candida friendly! Thanks for the post, gonna try it tomorrow!
