Making the Commitment to Be Healthy

I like to think that I’m generally a healthy person. Yet I know that there is so much more that I could be doing. Before becoming a parent, (there’s the excuse) I had so much more time to exercise, spend time on myself and I did a lot less stress eating!

Now with a family that includes two toddlers, I feel like I’m always on-the-go and on high alert. There are too many times when I end up skipping my workouts, picking up a fast-food breakfast or lunch for myself because after preparing the kid’s lunches and snacks I was too tired or rushed to make something for myself. I was a big meal planner for dinner as well and life seems to have taken over and the meal planning has taken a backseat which often leads to take-out for dinner.

With some recent health issues in our family, eating well and exercising has become more important. We’ve become very aware of what is in our food, what we are putting into our bodies and how important exercise is.

So when I got the opportunity to join the Subway Commit to Fit Pledge, I was excited. It was the push I needed to make all those small changes to our lifestyle. Since making the #commit2fit pledge here are the changes we have committed to:

1. We’ve started walking to destinations that are close by instead of driving.

2. Three nights a week, the hubby and I are doing yoga instead of sitting on the couch and watching TV.
3. I’ve been prepping the night before so EVERYONE is able to eat a healthy breakfast in the morning, not just the kids.
4. On busy evenings when cooking a meal is just not going to happen, we’ve been avoiding fast food and making better choices like sandwiches, soups and salads from Subway. It’s still fast but so much healthier!

5. I’ve committed to working out four times a week, not matter what. (And now I’ve announced it to the world!)

If you’re looking for a little push towards a healthier lifestyle, take the Subway Commit to Fit Pledge. It’ll help you achieve your goals and in the process, you can win some awesome prizes!

  1. Awesome! Great efforts. Even I love to go for evening walks with my family and then we play some table tennis and I have committed to eat good home cooked food 🙂

  2. It’s wonderful to see how you are making health & wellness a family activity. This is something that helps to stay active but is also teaching children how to make health choices, too! Thanks for sharing your journey!

  3. How wonderful for you and your family! Im right in the same boat with you trying to get more exercise and we are eating so much better than we were a year ago. I think we all feel so much better for it!

  4. That’s a wonderful plan to get healthy! Now that we have the puppy, we are out and about taking her for walks. If I can’t do this on my own, I’ll get the dog to help me! 🙂

  5. Your ideas sound great and it’s wonderful that your whole family is support. Hopefully, you will be able to keep it up for some time despite busyness and later weather issues.

  6. The commit to fit is a great concept, it gives you the extra push you may need. I’ve been trying to make healthier choices, what I did this week was make a soup and salad for the week. So whenever I’m hungry I eat either or have some before a meal. Thanks for the blog post, I found it really insightful.
